Summary
The Manufacturing Technology course at the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences in Iserlohn offers students a forward-looking education in the field of mechanical engineering corresponding to the requirements of the industry. The distinctive aspects of the course are the planning, performance and monitoring of the production of industrial products taking modern quality assurance measures and economic factors into consideration.
In the first three semesters students are introduced to basic subjects such as mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, materials science and CAD. In subsequent semesters this knowledge is then fortified and expanded upon with regard to the different production processes (e.g., plastics, metal forming, machining). Further specialisation is possible thanks to the range of general optional subjects available, which include: CAD/CAM, CAE methods, marketing, prototype production.
